Parent First Aid

Sue, our Operations Director, held on Saturday a Parent’s first aid course. It was a great informatic morning learning all the basics of Paediatrics First Aid. Areas of focus included chocking, CPR, the recovery position and how to use a defibrillator.

We plan to run another session in the Summer so if you’d like to be added to the waiting list, please let us know at

Congratulations to Chantelle!

Our Nursery Manager at Clystheath, Chantelle Connor, very recently has completed her Level 5 Early Years Lead Practitioner qualification!

Chantelle not only was the first in the company, but she was one of the first who completed this qualification with NCFE, the awarding body!

This is a huge achievement Chantelle, well done!

February Half Term – Holiday Club

We had an exciting week at Holiday Club during the February Half Term.

The children went to the park and did some baking. Naomi hosted a Valentine’s Day card making competition. There was even a trip to the cinema and a pamper day filled with face masks and nail painting.

There is always so much fun to be had at our Holiday Club, bookings will soon be open for our Easter Holiday Club, so keep your eyes peeled!

Our Chosen Charity for the Year

It is with a heavy heart that we come together to announce Puffins’ chosen charity for the year. This decision is in honour of a very cherished member of our team, Karen Alford, who left an incredible mark on all of us and our nurseries.

Karen was not just a colleague; she was an integral part of the Puffins family for over 13 years. Karen’s passion for Early Years and her care for the growth of every child in our care was unparalleled. Karen had a unique way of brightening everyone’s day.

In Karen’s honour and with the assistance of Karen’s family, we have chosen Marie Curie as our designated charity for the year. Marie Curie provides expert hospice care, support over the phone and push for better end of life care for all. Marie Curie was brilliant and lovingly supported Karen and her family in her last few days.

Throughout the year, we will organise events and occasions to raise money for Marie Curie, this year being very special! We hope that by coming together in Karen’s memory, we can continue her legacy of being a compassionate, kind and dedicated part of Puffins.

Any support, whether big or small, will undoubtedly make a positive impact for Marie Curie and the lives they impact.

NHS Start for Life

Did you know that 90% of brain growth happens before the age of five. What you do together can make a huge difference!

The Department for Education (DfE), in partnership with the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) has launched its Start for Life ‘Little Moments Together’ campaign. The campaign aims to educate parents about the importance of brain development in the first five years of a child’s life, and the crucial role they play, with advice and tips from Start for Life.

The Start for Life Email Programme is a universal offering, for all parents-to-be and parents of children up to four and a half years old. The service provides regular emails to the audience as their child reaches key milestones. Sign up below for emails here!

Safer Internet Day!

Tuesday the 6th of February 2024 is Safer Internet Day, for Top Tips on keeping under 5s safe online, click keeping-under-fives-safe-online2 !

At Christmas we asked our staff to put on their Christmas jumpers and raise some more for the charity, UNIQUE!

Across the company we managed to raise an incredible £200.00!!!

Unique aim to be there for families and individuals, offering a listening ear, an understanding, sympathetic presence to support them when they need us most, often at or just after receiving a diagnosis of a rare chromosome disorder or an autosomal dominant single gene disorder.

Thank you to all of our staff and parents who donated to this wonderful cause!

Christmas HAF 2023

As a year of our HAF holiday club comes to an end, it is great to reflect on the amazing things our holiday club got up to. Most recently for the Christmas holiday club the children attended the Exeter Panto, the show was Sleeping Beauty. We enjoyed ice cream at the interval and the children thoroughly enjoyed the trip. One child said, ‘This is the BEST day!’

Not only were we very lucky to go to the Panto, in the same week we ventured to the cinema to watch the film Disney Wish. This trip, again, was a fantastic outing and very much enjoyed.

Aside from the trips, the fun didn’t stop when they returned to the club, the children made wreaths, gingerbread houses, made their own Christmas crackers and baked sausage rolls and yule logs!

At the end of the HAF children’s booking, we were able to hand out boxes of fresh produce and hampers full of Christmassy goodies!

The Christmas club topped off a great year for our HAF programme, the children still spoke about our trips to the Zoo, Bicton Park and The Donkey Sanctuary we were able to offer in the Summer.

In 2023 Puffins have loved being part of the Holiday Activities and Food programme, we have enjoyed welcoming new families and making some lasting memories all round!

We hope to remain a HAF childcare provider in 2024 and continuing the thriving club!
