Starting out

We offer an Intermediate Apprenticeship for the Children and Young People’s Workforce for people looking to start their careers in childcare.

An apprenticeship is a valuable and recognised programme where apprentices learn on the job, building up knowledge and skills, gaining qualifications and earning money all at the same time.

Achieving the Apprenticeship means that you would gain a QCF Qualification at Level 2 in The Children and Young People’s Workforce (equivalent to GCSE’s), and Functional Skills at level 1 or 2 in English, ICT and maths. You will also receive training in paediatric first aid, food hygiene, equality and diversity, safeguarding and employment rights and responsibilities.

If this sounds like a lot to take on, don’t worry – most of your learning and assessment takes place on-the-job, and you get plenty of support from your tutor, assessor and work-based mentor.

It takes a minimum 12 months to get an Intermediate Apprenticeship.

Progression

Once you have completed an Intermediate Apprenticeship you can progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship, which is equivalent to a diploma or A-levels. An Advanced Apprenticeship takes 12mths to complete and there are entry requirements for this course.
