Earlier this year our Sowton Nursery moved into new premises. The nursery have written a lovely news section about their new nursery environment:

We have a very welcoming and homely nursery and this is portrayed throughout our curiosity amongst each room. Our baby room encourages the children to use Makaton signing throughout their play and this is then role modelled throughout the setting. Within the baby room we have a cosy area for the children to rest and sleep, during activity times we carry out a range of activities around the children’s interests where they also have free flow to the garden throughout the day. Within our Bumblebee room we carry out an ECAT project, this is where the children participate in small group activities to help build confidence and communication skills.

In our preschool we give the children the opportunity to express themselves through using their imagination to create their own stories which we then act out as a group. This fits nicely in with our poetry basket where we learn about different poems and actions that go alongside.

We encourage the children to be as curious as possible with a range of natural resources to support their learning, this ranges from our homemade playdough station which allows the children to learn quantities between amounts of ingredients needed with different herbs and unique resources to allow them to express themselves through play.

Each of our rooms have got continuous access to the large garden areas followed by a forest school section, we have created areas within the garden to enhance the children’s creativity and thinking, this consists of a large scale mud kitchen, water station/sand pit and our very own stage to carry out performance using our imagination. Every child gets access to the forest school garden, this is a great opportunity for the children to learn about wildlife and nature. We carry out a range of experiences like creating our own dens, puppets, clay models and much more.

If you would like to organise a visit to see the nursery and meet the team, we would be very happy to oraganise this for you. Please call the Head Office on 01392 496017.
