Every minute approximately 84,000 wet wipes are used worldwide. Most daily used wipes are another type of single use plastic. Most wet wipes look like they are made of cotton, however most of them are made of polyester and polypropylene. These wet wipes are clogging up sewers and make up and eye watering 93% of the ‘fatbergs’ in the sewers.

Puffins decided to swap out these wipes and introduce biodegradable wet wipes across all our nurseries. The baby wipes we use are completely free from plastic. Instead, they are made from viscose, which is an FSC certified wood-based material. They are still very soft and strong.

To put this into perspective these wipes degrade in 3 to 4 months – this is compared to plastic containing wipes, which can take several decades to completely degrade!

One step at a time we hope can make a huge difference.
